There is a belief that a tigress was fed by Prince Mahasatwo when the tigress was about to die due to starvation. The remaining bones of the Prince were brought and buried in the tomb of the Namo Buddha monastery. After about 3500 years, Lord Gautam Buddha arrived in the village and declared himself the reincarnation of Prince Mahasatwo hence the village was named “Namo Buddha” meaning paying homage to Lord Buddha.
