Langtang Valley Trek is an amazing 10 days trip to the Langtang region in the north of the Kathmandu valley lying at the border of Tibet. It is a remarkable example of the development and speeding up for the re-establishment of the valley after the devastating earthquake in April 2015. Langtang valley now is ready and safe for trekking. This Langtang Valley Trek is a great opportunity to immerse you in the Tamang and Sherpa culture, ancient traditions and the striking surrounding. The pasture lands, dense forests, glaciers, and waterfalls are extraordinary. This route used to be an important trading route connecting Tibet and Nepal. The local people here are expert in bartering and trading business.
Syabru bensi is the main point where we will start and end our Langtang valley trek. We will hike up to the Langtang valley from Syabru bensi. During the trek, we will pass through the forests of Sagarmatha National Park. There are unique species of flora and fauna, wildlife like musk deer, monkeys, Himalayan black bear, pika, etc. We might also get the sight of the national bird, Danphe. The ups and downs through the trail are exhausting but the astonishing views and the cool temperature will comfort you. Yak Cheese Factory, the STOL airstrip at the Chhaldang and the Kyangjin Gompa are the main attractions of the Langtang valley. We can climb up to Langsisa within one day’s hike from The Kyanjin Gompa where a thin settlement can be found. There are the Buddhist monasteries that energize us with the spiritual feeling and pious environment.
Langtang Valley Trek is comparatively easy trekking route than others. So the novice trekkers with moderate physical endurance also can choose this trek. The trek can be accomplished exploring the Langtang valley in about 8 – 10 days. The “Lang” means “Lama” and “Tang” means “to follow” in Tibetan dialect. The massive earthquake in April 2015 in Nepal was very destructive to this Langtang valley but the positive attitude and the labor of the local people here have built this valley back to settling situation. The best time to travel in Langtang valley is usually during Autumn (September to December) and Spring (March to May). The first day is the arrival in Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu. Welcome and then transfer to hotel in a private vehicle by the representative of Step On Himalaya. Stay overnight at the hotel and gets prepared for the trekking.
Today we will take a 6 – 7hours ride by bus to Syabru Bensi passing via Trishuli and Dhunche. On the way, you can enjoy the views of Himalayas, especially from Kakani. We will see many villages, waterfalls, local markets and greeneries of the hillocks on the way. Syabru bensi is an amazing place at an elevation of 1462meters / 4795 feet with stone houses and a community of Tamangs and Sherpas. Stay overnight in Syabru bensi.
After having breakfast, we will head to Lama Hotel which is at the height of 2510m/8232ft from Syabru bensi. We will follow the trail of the Langtang River. We will cross a suspension bridge and then ascent the ridge up to Paira Lodge. We will further ascent to New Bridge and then up to the Rimche. After walking for about 40 minutes, we will now arrive at the Lama Hotel. If we are lucky, we might see the Himalayan black bears, the Red Pandas, the monkeys, etc. Stay overnight at Lama Hotel.
Today we will start the trail climbing the Ghora Tabela passing through the dense woods of oaks, maples, hemlock, and rhododendron. The view of the Mt. Langtang Lirung which has a height of 7244m is spectacular. We will further follow the Trail of Langtang River leaving the Ghora Tabela. Continuing the walk, we will arrive at the Langtang village at the height of 3307meters / 10846 feet. Stay overnight at Langtang village.
Today we will ascend to Sindum and then to Yamphu. Walking further, we will cross the Laja Khola. Now we will climb up the moraine to the viewpoint of Kyanjin Gompa and the unique icefall from the Langtang Lirung. We will then hike to the Kyanjin Ri at the height of 4773meters / 14526 feet. After spending some time, we will climb down to the Kyanjin Gompa. Stay overnight here.
After having breakfast, we will start our trek climbing a steep trail to the Tsergo Ri at the elevation of 5050meters / 16512 feet. From here, we can enjoy the amazing panoramic view of the wholesome Langtang Himalayan range that includes the Gyanghempo (6,888 m.), Langshisa Ri (6,810 m.), and Langtang Lirung (7,244m), Nayakang, Ganjala peak, etc. The view of the Langtang valley is spectacular from here. We will then trek back to Kyanjin Gompa and stay overnight here.
We will now retrace our steps to Lama Hotel today enjoying the amazing views of the Himalayan ranges and passing through the beautiful Tamang settlements. The trail is mostly descending from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel. Stay overnight at lodges here.
We will be further descending till Syabru bensi from Lama Hotel. It will be easier trail and fast as we know the trail already. Stay overnight here.
We will pack our things and be ready to travel back to Kathmandu on a bus from Syabru Bensi. After reaching Kathmandu, you will be escorted to the hotel. Stay overnight at the hotel.
The representative of the Step On Himalaya will transfer you to the Tribhuvan International Airport after having breakfast. We will be at the airport at least 3 hours prior to the scheduled time.
